Litigation Secretary

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Litigation Secretary to join our growing team in Rancho Bernardo. This is a new role created to support a busy practice focused on complex environmental litigation and plaintiff class actions. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of litigation processes and thrive in a collaborative, detail-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive litigation support to attorneys in a small, tight-knit team.
- Manage state and federal court calendaring (manual via Outlook) and ensure accuracy of deadlines.
- Prepare and file legal documents in state and federal courts (electronic and manual filing).
- Draft, format, and proofread pleadings, correspondence, and discovery documents.
- Organize case files, maintain document management systems, and assist with trial preparation.
- Communicate with clients, courts, and opposing counsel professionally and promptly.
- Handle administrative tasks including scheduling, expense tracking, and billing support.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of litigation experience (law firm setting preferred).
- Strong knowledge of state and federal court rules, calendaring, and filing procedures.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Word; familiarity with document management systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small, collaborative team.
- Paralegal certificate not required-experience is valued over formal certification.
- Interest in paralegal work is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $28-$32/hour (commensurate with experience; open to market rates).
- Benefits: Full package (medical, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO).
- Hours: Standard business hours (7.5-hour workday).
Top Three Must-Haves
- Minimum 3 years of litigation experience with strong understanding of litigation processes.
- Expertise in state and federal calendaring and court filing.
- High attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills to fit within a small, close-knit team.
